Tooth changes in Midlife

Children are told to brush their teeth before bed. Information is out there about too much candy eating. Children even know what tarter build-up is. But, back in the '50's kids weren't so conscience of the sugar problems. In either generation the kids are not prepared for what happens to the teeth in the mid age period!

Teeth pieces with fillings start to break-off. The news of the fillings getting older, is one of crumbing teeth. Our teeth cannot hold the hard silver like filling to the life's span. The filling mostly does not make the life span either, or even until false teeth should be a thought.

Dental bills can be very high in mid life. Experiences can be breaking teeth and fillings, more than one or two in a year. It is not uncommon for root canals, more than one in a year in mid life. It would be a good idea not to eat hard candy.

Before one realizes, women are at the start of Pina Osteoporosis. She is entering bone loss. The ligaments around the teeth loosen, the teeth become loose.  At this time the gums are receding back. Upon looking at an x-ray, one can see the bone level. The bone line will not be at the top; again this is cause of the loosening teeth.

Some women, take the' bone pills` this time to prevent osteoporosis.

The trouble with receeding gums, is not just that one has to buy a special tooth paste for sensitive gums exposing the teeth; but that when a dentist fits on a crown, he/she may not go to more than the very top of the tooth. This can happen if it is an armchair fitting, done in the same day. It usually goes unnoticed, you do not feel the decay going-on inside; because the root is not there.

It is now an age for tooth restoration. Years ago the same tooth may have been pulled-out instead of restoration.

Services are provided now are are cosmetic for example, dental implants. Other services are oral surgery, and TMJ Disorders.

This time, is expensive enough just for the cost of the root canals, let alone any more dental cosmetics desired.

A little child cannot comprehend the future of their teeth if they do not brush. The parents' repetition making them brush is beneficial. Visual signs of fillings and missing teeth may be helpful, even if the child is on the first set of baby teeth. Explaining the acts of sugar - no sugar before bed. The parent or caregiver could take a few minutes to tell a little story of sugar. And how tartar builds-up, all day long. Flossing is a good thing, to explain. It is another way to get rid of the germs.

It is interesting to know that in the 1940`s onward, dental floss was not heard of. The dentist tells me that after the age of twenty, gum disease starts; it is a silent destroyer. Again, people weren`t going to the Dentist for Teeth cleaning and Teeth whitening. There would be more controlled bacteria if the visits had been made, and prevention.

Sure there are nice white fillings today that are cosmetically right, but there is a bigger bill.
