If you're looking for a vacation, and you love the outdoors, you can't beat Niagara Falls. The Falls have been casting a magical spell on visitors for hundreds of years.
Today the area around the Falls in southern Ontario just near the US border, features a wide variety of tourist attractions. In addition to the museums, there is nightclub entertainment, restaurants for wining and dining and shops for souvenirs.
The view of the quaint houses on the way to Niagara-on-the-Lake is a treat in itself. Some are historical sites, built with pink and gray stones and copper roofs.
Niagara Falls Attractions
The big attraction is, of course, the Falls. History buffs can follow plagues along the White Water Walk detailing the Falls' geological formation and the people who lost their lives going over the Falls in barrels.
Put on a bright rain coat to peek out from the cave-like fenced hollows underneath the Falls. You'll get wet for sure, but it's worth it when you get very close to the Falls bottom.
While you're in town, visit Waves Waterpark and the Skylon Tower as well as Marineland and the Butterfly Conservatory. Clifton Hill, Fallsview Avenue and Lundy's Lane are popular tourist areas of the city and several festivals take place in the area: Niagara Icewine Festival in January; the New Vintage Festival in June; and the Niagara Wine Festival, in September.
Local vineyards offer wine tours and there are many spectacular golf courses in the region as well as Casino Niagara and Fallsview Casino to try your hand at the tables.
Explore the wonderful farms on the Niagara Pinsula, and the Niagara area. If passing by or through St. Catharines, visit Lake Land Game Meats on St. Paul Street West for great corn and exotic animals.
There are a good amount of Farmer`s markets - Niagara, Fonthill, Port Colborne, Grimsby and Niagara-on-the-Lake. Artisan markets, where lots of organic and heirloom growers pile precious produce high for the hungry shoppers.
On Niagara-on-the-lake there is a 100-arce grape farm Althoough icewine vinegar is a signature product, there also is a line of fruit vinegars such as sour cherry, peach, apricot, and tomato vinegar. No short cuts are taken, no flavourings, prservatives or additives are used. The product is called Aceto Niagara.
