Creamed Potatoes with Shredded Cabbage

Liking a little cabbage but not too much ... try this British favorite.
Bubble and Squeak Bake.
Serves 4.
Ingredients:
5 potatoes, peeled.
1Tbsp. butter or margarine.
¼ tsp. each, Salt & pepper.
¼ small cabbage, shredded.
½ small onion, peeled and grated.
1 cup (mature) cheddar cheese, grated (optional), or other cheese.
2 pint (1.25 litre) oven dish, buttered.
Method:
Cook the potatoes in boiling water until tender.
Drain and cream with the butter and a little milk, 1/3 cup.
Season well with salt & pepper.
Slice the cabbage, cook and drain well, reserving the water.
Prepare carrots and onions, put into the cabbage water and cook for 5 minutes, only; Drain.
Set the oven set at hot, 375 degrees F.
Mix the cabbage and potato together. Turn half into the buttered dish.
Cover with the onion and carrot mixture; Top with the cheese.
Spread evenly, the top with the rest of cabbage & potato mixture.
Smooth the surface; mark in wedge piece sizes with a knife.
Sprinkle with the rest of the grated cheese.
Bake about 40 minutes until golden. Serve cut into the wedges.
