Improve the taste of your veggies.
When you know these combinations, you`ll be able to turn whatever fresh vegetables your fridge or market has to offer into a fast, crisp, colorful main dish. These ways perk up vegetables, fresh or frozen.
Start with hot cooked vegetable, add a little butter or margarine, and then toss in seasonings to taste:
Green peas:
Reduced-fat sour cream and dried or snipped fresh dill.
Sliced scallions and thyme or tarragon.
Instant minced onion and Worcestershire sauce.
Carrots:
Apple cider and a sprinkling of ground nutmeg.
Brown sugar and a touch of ground cinnamon.
Ground cumin and lemon juice.
Broccoli:
Freshly squeezed lemon juice and coarsely ground black pepper.
Balsamic vinegar.
Sautéed garlic and grated Parmesan cheese.
Corn:
Chili powder.
Salsa.
Fresh lime juice and salt.
Green Beans:
Soy sauce and dark Oriental sesame oil.
Low-fat herbed cream cheese.
Grated lemon peel.
